NGC4565 - The Needle Galaxy

NGC4565, also known as the Needle Galaxy is an edge on spiral galaxy about 40 million light years away.
It is known as the Needle Galaxy due to its narrow profile.
There is a bulge of stars near the centre of the disc glowing in the yellow light of older stars.

If this galaxy were face on as opposed to edge on, it would be the brightest galaxy in the sky.
