The designation NGC7023 refers to
the open cluster within the larger reflection nebula designated LBN487.

dust grains reflecting starlight.
The pretty petals of the Iris Nebula span
about 6 light years.
OIt is circumpolar so available to observers in northern latitudes all year round.
